Our Beliefs

Read our Statement of Faith below.

The Scriptures

We believe in the authority and sufficiency of the Holy Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament, as originally written; that it is inspired in every part (plenary) and every word (verbal) and is the product of Spirit-controlled men and therefore is infallible and inerrant in all matters of which it speaks. We believe that the Bible is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creed, and opinions shall be tried.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19-21

God

We believe that there is one and only one living and true God, an infinite Spirit, the Maker and supreme Ruler of Heaven and Earth: that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5; 1 Corinthians 8:6

Jesus Christ

We believe in the absolute deity of Jesus Christ; that he was divine as no other man can be, being very God of very God, existing from all eternity co-equal with God the Father and the Spirit; that He was active in creation; that He never ceased to be God for one instant and that His humiliation did not consist in laying aside His deity; that as a man He was miraculously begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.

John 1:1-2; 8:58; Matthew 1:20; Colossians 1:15-17

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature; that He was active in creation; that in His relation to the unbelieving world He restrains the evil one until God’s purpose is fulfilled; that He convicts of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; that He bears witness to the truth of the gospel in preaching and testimony; that He is the agent of the new birth; that He indwells, helps, seals, guides, teaches, witnesses to and sanctifies the believer.

Matthew 28:19-20; Genesis 1:1-2; Mark 1:8; John 14:16-17; Ephesians 1:13; Romans 8:14; John 14:26; Romans 8:16

The Devil or Satan

We believe in the reality and personality of Satan, the Devil; that he was created by God as an angel but through pride and rebellion became the enemy of his Creator; that he became the unholy god of this age and the ruler of all the powers of darkness and is destined to the judgment of eternal justice in the lake of fire.

Isaiah 14:12-26; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 20:10

Creation

We believe the Biblical account of the creation of the physical universe, angels, and man, that this account is neither allegory nor myth, but a literal, historical account of the direct immediate creative acts of God without any evolutionary process; and that all men are descended from the historical Adam and Eve, first parents of the entire human race.

The Fall of Man

We believe that man was created in innocence (in the image and likeness of God) under the law of his Maker, by voluntary transgression Adam, the first man, fell from his sinless state, and all men sinned in him, in consequence of which all men are totally depraved, are partakers of Adam’s fallen nature and are sinners by nature and by conduct, and therefore are under just condemnation without defense or excuse.

Genesis 3:1-6; Romans 3:10-19; 5:12, 19

Salvation

We believe that the salvation of sinners is divinely initiated and wholly of grace and is possible because of the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins; that by the shedding of His blood in His death He fully satisfied the just demands of a holy and righteous God regarding sin. We believe that faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only condition of salvation. Repentance is a change of mind and purpose toward God prompted by the Holy Spirit and is an integral part of saving faith. We believe that all who are born again are eternally kept by God.

Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 Peter 2:24; Romans 3:24-25; John 10:8-29; Romans 8:35-39

Justification

We believe that justification is that judicial act of God, whereby He declares the believer righteous upon the basis of the imputed righteousness of Christ, that it is bestowed, not in consideration of any work of righteousness which we have done, but solely through faith in the Redeemer’s shed blood.

Romans 3:24; 4:5; 5:1,9; Galatians 2:16

Sanctification

We believe that sanctification is the divine setting apart of the believer unto God accomplished in a threefold manner; first, an eternal act of God, based upon redemption in Christ, establishing the believer in a position of holiness at the moment he trusts in Christ as his Savior; secondly, a continuing process in the believer as the Holy Spirit applies the Word of God to his life; thirdly, the final accomplishment of this process at the Lord’s return.

John 17:17; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4; 5:23-24; 1 John 3:2; Jude 24

The Local Church

We believe that the local church is an organized congregation of believers who join together by covenant and by faith for the purpose of fellowship, worship, evangelism and ministry. The local church is an autonomous body invested with the authority of Scripture to govern itself according to the principles of Scripture and the leading of the Holy Spirit. The church will observe the ordinances of Christ and its members will exercise their gifts for the good of the body.

Matthew 18:15-17; Acts 2:41-42; Ephesians 4:11-13

We believe in the unity of all believers in the Church universal, which is the body of Christ.

Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18

The Ordinances

We believe that there are two church ordinances, baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is the single immersion of the believer in water in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and is properly called “believer’s baptism”. Baptism sets forth in a beautiful and solemn way our faith in and identification with the crucified, buried, and risen Savior, Jesus Christ, through whom we died and rose to a new life; that baptism is a prerequisite to the privileges of church membership. We believe that the Lord’s Supper was established by Christ Himself as a commemoration of the breaking of His body and the shedding of His blood in His death; that the celebration of the Lord’s Supper is symbolic, that it is an act of obedience, that it is to be celebrated regularly and that it is to be preceded by self-examination. We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper are acts of obedience and that neither has any saving power in themselves.

Acts 8:36-39; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32

The fact that we have all been baptized in one Spirit into one body proves that as individual members of that body we each have our own function(s) and must not all seek to manifest the same spectacular gifts. (1 Corinthians 12:13). The New Testament also affirms that we should not be as concerned about gifts, which are temporal (1 Corinthians 13:3-12), as about the abiding and eternal character traits and fruit of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 11:13; Galatians 5:22-23

Of the Righteous and the Wicked

We believe that there is a radical and essential difference between the righteous and the wicked; that only such as through faith are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and sanctified by the Spirit of God, are truly righteous in God’s esteem; while all such who continue in impenitence and unbelief are in his sight wicked, and under the curse; and that this distinction holds among men both during life and after death, in the everlasting conscious suffering of the lost.

Malachi 3:18; Romans 6:17-23; Matthew 25:34-41; Luke 6:25; John 8:21

Of the Return of Christ

We believe in the bodily, personal, premillennial return of Jesus Christ; that he will come before the seven-year tribulation period to catch away His church, coming only in the air. He will come again with His church at the close of the tribulation to judge the living nations and to set up His Kingdom on earth.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 19:11-21

Of the Resurrection

We believe in the resurrection of the bodies of the dead; that believers’ bodies that lay in the grave will be raised at the coming of Christ for His church and caught up with transformed living saints to meet the Lord in the air, and that the wicked dead will be raised up at the close of the Millennial Kingdom and stand in their bodies at the Great White Throne Judgment to receive their final doom.

John 5:21-30; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Revelation 7:9-17

Of Civil Government

We believe that civil government is of divine appointment, for the interest and good order of human society; that magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored, and obeyed; except in things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ who is only Lord of the conscience, and that coming Prince of the kings of the earth.

Romans 13:7; 2 Samuel 23:3; Exodus 18:21-22; Acts 23:5; Matthew 22:21; Acts 5:29; Acts 4:19-20; Daniel 3:17-38

Marriage

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4

The Sanctity of Human Life

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.
